Sudoku needs no math—only logic and deduction. Start with three rules, build a toolkit, and never guess again.

FIRST PRINCIPLE
The digits are symbols. You never add, subtract, multiply, or divide. The entire puzzle is a question of where each symbol can—and cannot—go.
THE FOUNDATION
Fill the grid so every row, column, and 3×3 box contains the digits 1 through 9 exactly once.
No digit can repeat in the same horizontal line.
Look up and down before placing a number.
Each bold 3×3 region follows the same rule.

Munch says: if you're guessing, pause. A logical step is still hiding somewhere in the grid.
BUILD YOUR TOOLKIT
Harder puzzles do not change the rules. They only ask you to notice deeper patterns.
Pick one digit and scan the rows and columns where it already appears. The blocked cells reveal where that digit can still go.
When a cell has two or three possibilities, note them. Candidates make hidden patterns visible without asking your memory to do everything.
If two cells in one row, column, or box contain the same two candidates, those numbers belong there and can be removed elsewhere.
When one candidate appears in exactly two matching columns across two rows, it forms a rectangle and can be eliminated from those columns elsewhere.
SOLVE WITH INTENTION
Look across the full grid for every 1, then every 2, and so on.
A row, column, or box with one empty cell gives you a naked single.
Candidate notes are most useful when a cell has only two or three possibilities.
